Well, it has been quite a spring! I have just returned from an amazing two months in Toronto performing the opera Treemonisha in the Luminato Festival. In April, I was delighted to bring Sing Sistah Sing! Tales of Transatlantic Freedom to the Charlotte Shout! Festival in North Carolina, where I performed. at America’s first Pianodrome in the Historic Grace AME Zion Church. Spring is most certainly coming in with a BANG! It began with my last performances of Lohengrin in the Role of Ortrud and Sing Sistah Sing! Tales of Transatlantic Freedom made it’s US debut in February as part of Black History Month in Boston at the iconic Museum of Fine Arts. 2022 has brought so many exciting projects including Tales of Transatlantic Freedom at The Pianodrome and the OMOS project. The big surprise of the season was being included in the Hot 100 List for Scotland! Looking ahead to 2023, there is much to be excited about further still! Read on to find out more.
Summer brings new adventures for Sing Sistah Sing! I am currently in rehearsals creating the piece Tales of Transatlantic Freedom with my new producers at Yard Heads International. We open at the brand new community-based venue 391 The Pianodrome in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe on the 19th of August at 19:00 with further performances until the 26th of August. It’s been incredible to be involved with OMOS - a moving image project that pays homage to Scotland’s untold Black history, and celebrates Black and Black LGBTQ excellence and performance. This year brings new and exciting events for Black History Month UK. In this special news post, I highlight events I am taking part in, kicking off the month with a bang performing Sing Sistah Sing! in the Glasgow Cathedral Festival. While being black and creative is a 365 days a year way of life for me and so many others, please join us this October as we highlight the extraordinary wealth of black creative talent found here in the UK.

I am honoured and excited to announce that I will be returning to the Edinburgh International Festival this summer in two semi-staged performances of Judith Wier’s Woman.Life.Song with the amazing Chineke! Orchestra. I will also be stepping back into the world of Opera with a new production in Berlin in September with Die Krönung der Schöpfung, presented by Produktion FMK. Despite currently still being in lockdown, there is a bit of light at the end of the tunnel, with new shows on the horizon for Sing Sistah Sing! in France and Germany, as well as an Opera performance later in the year! 2020 was quite a year with Covid-19 cancelling all live engagements, however I have been able to use the time to focus on video performance and expanding my radio work. Exciting News! I am excited to announce that Sing Sistah Sing!Has been invited to be part of this summer’s Edinburgh International Festival. The show will be an “as live” recording from The Hub that will be part of the Chamber Music Soundscapes series aired throughout Prince’s Street Gardens on Monday 17th August and streamed concurrently on YouTube at 1pm.

Opening with a Gala Ceremony event at Holyrood, it continues around the UK, with shows for students, a masterclass, talks, a gospel oratorio and civil rights radio shows. I look back on the Festival of 2019, having taken on the iconic role of Anita in West Side Story at Usher Hall and presenting The Power of Music featuring 3 distinguished writers at St Andrew's and St George's West. Including exclusive behind-the-scenes photo galleries from an incredible festival season.
In these three events, internationally renowned mezzo-soprano Andrea Baker interviews three master storytellers about the music that keeps them spellbound. The Power of Music in Edinburgh Fringe will be held at St. Andrews and St. George's West with three special guests, Louise Welsh, Sir Geoff Palmer and Val McDermid.
Andrea brings her award-winning show "Sing Sistah Sing!" to the US this spring, joined by pianist Peter Maleitzke. The tour will visit San Francisco, Arizona State University, Tennessee King Institute, and Cotuit Center for the Arts in Massachusetts.
