Festival Season Update!

Well the 2020 festival season has been like no other! The streets of Edinburgh were eerily quiet and the usual frenetic buzz was nowhere to be found. BUT, we still managed to make music and create. There were online offerings from the Book Festival, Fringe of Colour, Edinburgh Museums and of course the International Festival with Sing Sistah Sing! It was so wonderful to make music again and to perform, even if it was just for the camera!

Watch the exclusive performance here:

Sing Sistah Sing! was also invited to take part in Bitesize Proms, a series of mini online classical concerts in aid of Help Musicians UK. It is a wonderful chance to see and hear incredible artists in unusual locations, all of whom donated their time and skill for the support of musicians hardest hit by the #Corona work stoppages. Please take a moment and visit the fundraising page here and if you can, help to support the great work they are doing.

Finally, I was invited to close the BBC2 roundup of the Edinburgh Festival Season with a short version of This Little Light of Mine from the show. You can catch up on the programme on BBC iPlayer which captures the spirit of Edinburgh and brings highlights of new shows and events. Away from performing, I have also been doing a series of radio programmes for BBC Radio Scotland for Classics Unwrapped. They feature my favourite “Unsung Opera Heroines” beginning with Reri Grist, followed by Wilhelmenia Hernandez, Anja Silja, Jan DeGaetani, and Blanche Thebom. As always they are available to hear on the BBC Sounds App and will feature on a specially dedicated Radio section coming soon to this website - watch this space!

As I look forward to what is usually the start of a new opera season, the news continues to be bleak. I have had many cancellations, but there are a few bright lights! The production of Il Trittico for the National Theater Weimar looks set to go ahead, and I have been invited by the Boston Children’s Chorus to perform in Boston for the 18th annual Dr. King celebration Born On The Water. Please head over to the Andrea Baker Mezzo section for regular updates on all future performances. In the meantime, enjoy all the links above for our online performances, for now it’s all we’ve got!

Stay safe out there!

Andrea
