Andrea worked with the Nevis Ensemble in December 2019

Update - March 2023

It is with deepest sadness that I announce that The Nevis Ensemble is no longer performing as an orchestra or organisation. This was a sudden development that I am still coming to grips with, my work with this organisation changed the way I approach performance and music making. I am forever grateful for the music we made together and the experiences we created bringing Classical Music to Everyone Everywhere! I leave the memories here for now and hope that when the dust settles Nevis 2.0 will begin to form.

Nevis Ensemble News! - May 2021

My Nevis Ensemble family continues to create and inspire! The most recent project is called Amplify created with The Survivor Arts Community (formerly known as Uncovered Artistry), which supports the artistic practice of survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

These four beautiful pieces composed by Aileen Sweeney, feature players from the Nevis Ensemble, and are beautifully sung by the wonderful Claire Hastings. More details about this inspiring project and links to the songs can be found here.

Andrea becomes Ambassador for The Nevis Ensemble

In 2020 Andrea was honoured to become an Ambassador for The Nevis Ensemble, Scotland’s Street Orchestra bringing music to everyone, everywhere.

My week with the Nevis Ensemble in December 2019 completely changed the way I viewed the power of classical music to effect change. Outside traditional concert venues, the Nevis Ensemble brings light, joy and human connection to all of its audiences, it brought me back to why I became a singer, the capacity of live music to bring people together through a shared experience across boundaries of race, language, religion and nationality.

NEVIS ENSEMBLE PODCAST SERIES

2020’s COVID-19 lockdown stopped live performance from taking place. As part of its online activity, Nevis Ensemble asked members of Scotland’s Street Orchestra to spend time exploring pieces by previously underrepresented composers.

In a new podcast series, Nevis Ambassador Andrea Baker speaks to the musicians about their choices. Listen back here.
