Spring Update 2024

It has been a while since I have had the time to write an update, busy on the road is an understatement!

I am currently working on a new project led by the extraordinary award-winning performance artist and theater creator Florentina Holzinger called Sancta (working title). The work is based on the opera Sancta Susanna by Hindemith and will be premiered at the Mecklenburgische State Theatre on the 30th of May (see my opera page for further dates) the show continues on to the Wiener Festwoche Festival, followed by Stuttgart Opera and Berlin Folksbühne in 2024. While we are in the early stages of creation, I can only say that this is a must see! I am so excited to be in the company of such a creative and inspiring group of artists. Run do not walk to see this show. Watch This Space for updates and further performances.

OK since my last update Treemonisha news! It was such an amazing creative experience and I am happy to report that the audiences loved the show as much as we did creating and performing it. Treemonisha won Best Opera Performance of 2023 in Canada by Broadway World.

Treemonisha was also named as one of the Top 10 Classical Musical Performances of 2023 by the New York Times.

Following on from a busy summer I embarked on my second Sondheim musical Follies with the National Theater of Hessen playing the roles of Hattie and Stella. OH what fun we had! The show was beautiful, with costumes by Jannik Kurz and directed by Tom Gerber with musical direction by Sing Sistah Sing!© friend Albert Horn. The opportunity to watch and work with European stars of musical theatre like Pia Douwes, Jacqueline Macaulay, Thomas Maria Peters and Dirk Weiler was inspiring and artistically life changing. I have sadly only one performance left on the 27th of June this year. Join us if you can for this most wonderful show.

Sing Sistah Sing!© Tales Of Transatlantic Freedom continues to grow and reach audiences around the world. We were honoured to be invited to return to the Tri-Cities area of Tennessee to perform the show in a variety of spaces thanks to Martin Dotterweich and the King Institute we were able to bring 3 concerts and 3 workshops. The most exciting change to this return was the addition of Newman Taylor Baker of Washboard XT to the mix. Howard and I were so excited to have Uncle Newman with us, we learned, we laughed, we created, oh and yes we had amazing southern cooking! The lifelong connections we made ignited a fire in all of us to continue the mission of connection and reconciliation through music. “Tales of Transatlantic Freedom presents music which has expressed lament and faith, protest and hope, throughout the long movement for emancipation.

I can’t overstate the energy, virtuosity, and emotion of this performance. Andrea BakerHoward Moody, and Newman Taylor Baker are world-class musicians who have researched and made this show. They are truly exceptional, and together with Tales they transcend performance; this is a journey together with those who attend.“
