2020/2021 Season Update

2020 has gotten off to a wonderful start! I finished last year with a life changing tour with Scotland’s Street Orchestra The Nevis Ensemble. This tour featured 7 mini concerts a day over three days in locations all over the west coast of Scotland. The ethos of the orchestra is to bring classical music to everyone everywhere and at no cost, it totally changed the way I think about presenting and performing classical music.  Read about it here https://nevisensemble.org/collaboration-december-2019/.

Next up was a remount of the opera Peter Grimes by Benjamin Britten with the State Theater of Hessen in Wiesbaden, there are still three performances to come between now and June dates and information can be found here: https://www.staatstheater-wiesbaden.de/programm/spielplan/peter-grimes/.

Spring brings perhaps one of my most exciting productions ever! Scott Joplins’ Treemonisha with the Volcano Theatre of Toronto. This is a world premier reimagining of the opera, with an incredible team featuring many of North Americas’ top black artists and musicians. I am honoured to be among them for my first new production there since moving to Europe. Take a look and join us if you can in the San Francisco Bay area this spring and watch this space for ongoing tour information. https://www.volcano.ca/treemonisha

Wagner will also make a return to my calendar first in London at the Grimeborn Festival this summer in Die Walküre (Fricka and Waltraute) conducted by Peter Selwyn. This is the second opera in Jonathon Doves’ condensed version of the great Ring Cycle which I first performed in 2015. Followed by Lohengrin at the Theater Chemnitz this autumn. Please visit the Andrea Baker Mezzo section of the website for more dates and details of performances.

New roles and operas also feature in the upcoming 2020/2021 season, Il Trittico (The Tryptic) a group of 3 one act operas by the great composer Giacomo Puccini. I make my debut performing the roles of Frugula in Il Tabarro, Princepessa in Suar Angelica and Zita in Gianni Schicci. This is also my first return to the National Theater Weimar since Lohengrin in 2013. Performances begin in March 2021 please visit the website: https://www.nationaltheater-weimar.de/en/index.php for details.

As always, further updates, photos and video will be posted across all social media platforms and of course updated here with all things Sing Sistah Sing! and Andrea Baker Mezzo.  I look forward to seeing you at a performance while on the road in 2020-2021!
