Covid-19 Update

Well the world has been turned upside down since my last news update. Sadly I can report that all the Treemonisha tour dates with the Volcano Theatre in California and Washington DC have been cancelled. Peter Grimes with the State Theatre Wiesbaden has also been cancelled. This means a very long period at home without a performance. It has been a hard adjustment, and it took me a number of weeks to come to grips with the reality this brings both personally and artistically. The Grimeborn Festival Die Walküre is still in question and as soon as I have an official confirmation I will pass it on!

Fortunately the arts community is robust and agile! I was invited to perform with the Boston Children’s Chorus. A recording of Ain’t no Mountain High Enough premiered on their YouTube channel on April 27th. The arrangement, by Jeremy Fox, is wonderful and there are over 200 young singers from around the world participating. This was just the push I needed to get back on my feet.

Please see my video greeting to the choir, followed by the premiere of the recording. This is a really exciting home coming for me as I grew up in Massachusetts and sang in regional and state wide choirs throughout my childhood!

In addition to the “Cyber Choir, I will be doing a series of features for the BBC Radio Scotland programme Classics Unwrapped, highlighting female singers that listeners may not be familiar with, beginning with the amazing Reri Grist. Ms. Grist was a coloratura soprano who had an extraordinary international operatic career. Follow the link to listen on the BBC IPlayer.

Finally, with all the uncertainty, it is impossible to say when I may be returning to the stage with Sing Sistah Sing! or in an opera, but please keep checking in here on the homepage and via the AndreaBakerMezzo link, for performance updates and photos from “Corona Lockdown”.

Stay safe everyone!

Much Love,

Andrea
